Residential Freight Delivery in the USA: What Importers Should Confirm

US final delivery · Address planning · Reviewed October 16, 2026 · 4 minute read

A freight quote to a residential address may require different equipment and handling than delivery to a commercial warehouse. Before booking, describe the actual site and unloading plan. “Door delivery” does not automatically mean inside delivery, carrying goods upstairs or unloading loose cartons by hand.

Describe the delivery site

Provide the complete address, ZIP code, contact, phone number, preferred delivery window and any gate, security or access instructions. Tell the provider if the road is narrow, the building has height or weight restrictions, the delivery is to an apartment, or the truck cannot safely reach the unloading point.

State the unloading method

Confirm whether there is a loading dock or forklift, and whether a liftgate, pallet jack, appointment, curbside delivery, inside placement or labor is required. If cargo is floor-loaded or consists of many loose cartons, ask whether the driver is expected to unload and what service is actually included.

Ask about equipment and accessorials

Ask whether the quote assumes a standard commercial truck and whether residential, limited-access, liftgate, redelivery, waiting-time or appointment charges may apply. Availability and charges depend on the carrier, address and freight profile; confirm them for the exact ZIP code and shipment.

Prepare the receiver

Make sure an adult receiver can be present, the delivery area is clear, and the package count can be checked at handoff. Photograph visible damage or shortages on arrival and note them on the delivery receipt before signing, then follow the carrier’s claim process promptly.

Request a delivery-specific quote

Provide the destination ZIP code, package count, pallet dimensions, total weight, unloading equipment and receiving hours through the [ANELGO inquiry form](../index.html#quote). Ask for the final delivery limits and included services in writing.
