US Destination Charges for LCL Imports from China: What to Ask
An ocean-freight number may cover only one part of an LCL move. At destination, cargo is unloaded from a shared container and handled through a consolidation facility before release or delivery. The exact charge names, amounts and billing party vary by provider, port, facility and shipment.
Ask for the destination line items
Request an itemized estimate for destination terminal or CFS handling, deconsolidation, documentation or release, customs brokerage, possible exams or storage, and inland delivery. These are categories to ask about, not a promise that each fee applies to every shipment. Confirm whether the quote is prepaid, collect, or split between parties.
Confirm what delivery includes
A delivery line may assume a commercial address with truck access and a receiving dock. Residential delivery, limited access, appointment windows, liftgate service, inside delivery, waiting time or non-standard unloading may require separate arrangements or charges. Provide the complete US address and receiving conditions before the quote is finalized.
Keep customs charges separate
Freight and destination handling do not necessarily include customs duties, taxes, broker fees or government-agency requirements. Confirm who is the importer of record, who will file the entry and who will pay duties. Ask the customs broker to review product classification and admissibility questions.
Get written assumptions before cargo sails
Ask the forwarder to state the quote validity, currency, charge basis, included services, excluded services, free-time assumptions if relevant, and what can trigger storage or rehandling. Compare providers using the same destination ZIP code and delivery conditions.
Request an itemized review
Send carton count, CBM, gross weight, port or city of origin, US delivery ZIP code, cargo-ready date and delivery type through the [ANELGO inquiry form](../index.html#quote). Request written confirmation of the destination scope before authorizing the shipment.
