Damaged Import Freight: How to Document Packaging and Cargo Condition
Which photos and records should a buyer collect when cargo arrives damaged?
Start with the exact product and shipment
Good evidence links the affected item to its packaging, handling unit and transport reference. Documentation should be made before repacking or disposal changes the condition.
Make the handoff actionable
Photograph wide and close views, carton labels, pallet or container location, inner packaging and product damage; record date, count, seal/container or tracking references, delivery receipt exceptions and any witness details. Notify the carrier and insurer promptly.
Confirm the boundary before cargo moves
Do not discard packaging or repair goods before the claims handler advises. Preserve deadlines, samples and records according to policy and contract instructions.
Prepare a quote request
Include the product name and model, supplier city and pickup address, destination ZIP code, cargo-ready date, total pieces, packed dimensions and gross weight. State whether freight is palletized, stackable, temperature-sensitive or subject to special handling. For regulated or restricted goods, attach the current product documents and request written carrier review before delivery to the warehouse. Review the [relevant ANELGO service page](/services/battery-electronics-shipping.html) and send the details through the [shipment inquiry form](../index.html#quote).
